The Haywood Waterways Association (HWA) is holding a Trout Race at 4:30 p.m. in Jonathan Creek, behind the Maggie Valley Festival Grounds, during the Smoky Mountain Elkfest. This fundraising event is sponsored by Snappy’s Italian Restaurant, Maggie Valley.

The “fish” are one for $3 or two for $5 and may be purchased in advance or at the festival.

A drawing will be held at the event, with prizes of $100 cash, youth bike, rain barrel, Dollywood tickets or Nantahala Outdoor Center passes. First place will get first choice and so on.

Each ticket will have a coupon to dine at Snappy’s Italian Restaurant in Maggie Valley.

Winners need not be present to win. In the event of flooding or inclement weather, a drawing will be held.

All proceeds support Haywood Waterways and the Rocky Mountain Elk Foundation. Haywood Waterways’ mission is to maintain and improve surface water quality in the Pigeon River Watershed of Haywood County. The HWA focusses on reducing nonpoint source pollution through educating and engaging the public, and working in partnerships to obtain technical and financial resources to help willing property owners.
