CANDLER — Western North Carolina Community Health Services announced expansion of its team at the Hominy Valley Health Center in Candler. Joining the team this month are Theresa Oursler, FNP, a board-certified family nurse practitioner, and Mattie DeAngelis, LCSWA, a licensed clinical social worker associate.
WNC Community Health Services offers a sliding fee for both insured and uninsured patients as a federally-qualified health center, which serve as a safety net providers in rural areas.
“We are excited to have Theresa and Mattie join our team at Hominy Valley Health,” said Kim Wagenaar, CEO of WNC Community Health Services. “The addition of these two talented health care professionals further demonstrates our commitment to meeting the diverse needs of our patients and providing the best possible care to the community.”
Oursler has been with WNC Community Health Services since 2010 and has lived in the region since 1981. She received her undergraduate BSN from Georgetown University and her MSN from Western Carolina University. DeAngelis received her Master’s in Social Work at the University of Louisville and utilizes a person-centered approach to create a safe and compassionate therapeutic space.
Both are joining Dr. Amit Patel, a board-certified Family Medicine Physician at Hominy Valley Health Center. Patel is from Asheville and his scope of practice ranges from pediatrics to adult medicine. He is a graduate of the East Tennessee State University Family Medicine Residency Program.
In addition to primary care and behavioral health, Hominy Valley Health offers a wide range of services, including immunizations, chronic disease management, work/school/travel exams, specialty referrals, substance abuse services, minor ambulatory procedures and more.
Patients also have access to discounted medications, as well as support services that address social determinants of health (such as food insecurity, housing instability, unmet transportation needs, etc.). Patients with health-harming legal needs can be connected to WNC Community Health Services medical legal partnership with Pisgah Legal Services.
In addition to Hominy Valley Health, WNC Community Health Services has locations in Asheville (Minnie Jones Health Center) and Marion (McDowell Health Center, opening February 2023), as well as a traveling mobile clinic.
Hominy Valley Health is located at 1914 Smokey Park Hwy., Candler, and is open from 7:30 a.m.-6 p.m. Tuesdays and Thursdays and from 8 a.m.-6 p.m. Wednesdays and Fridays.
