Pearl Harbor in Honolulu Hawaii

REMEBERING THE DAY — Pearl Harbor Day — at the Waynesville branch library.

The 78th anniversary of the attack on the U.S. Army and Navy base in Pearl Harbor is Saturday, Dec. 7.

The Sunday morning attack by the Imperial Japanese Navy came as a surprise to the American Army and Navy and lead to great losses of life and equipment. More than 2,000 American citizens were killed and more than 1,000 were injured.

The Haywood County Historical & Genealogical Society will hold its general membership meeting at 10 a.m. Dec. 7, at the Waynesville branch of the Haywood County Library, lower level.

The program for this meeting will be the annual “Show and Tell” meeting, with a focus on World War II. Attendees are asked all to bring an artifact that represents the World War II era.

Those who have a family member who served in World War II, are asked bring something that represents their involvement. If not, bring an artifact that helps all remember this difficult time in U.S. history, which created what most refer to as “the Greatest Generation” of Americans.

All are welcome to participate or just attend for sharing memories. Contact the HCHGS at 275-4057.
