The WNC Button Club will host the Appalachian Button Jamboree on Saturday, May 22, from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. at the Waynesville Inn Golf Resort and Spa, located at 176 Country Club Drive.
This free event is open to the public and will feature buttons for collectors, military enthusiasts, quilters, fiber artists, jewelers and crafters. The event will also feature a variety of other vintage sewing items.
During the event, guests can check out a display of antique and vintage buttons through the ages and other accessories for sale. Kids can buy from a ‘poke’ of fun buttons.
Button collecting has a long history and was recognized as an organized hobby through the founding of the National Button Society in 1938. Many state and local button clubs were established during the 1940s.
The National Button Society has emphasized the preservation and study of clothing buttons with a membership of over 3,000 on four continents. These button collectors share the objectives to promote educational research and exhibitions, to publish and disseminate information about buttons, and to preserve the aesthetic and historical significance about buttons for future generations.
