Thomas Wolfe once wrote, “You can’t go home again.”  I am discovering the truth of this statement.

Mom died only 10 months ago, and yet I find myself still looking for her and replaying all the old conversations, both good and bad and even though Dad is still here, for some reason it’s not quite home anymore.

I remember the day I received salvation, the day when I fell in love, the days when my children were born and the day my marriage ended. These days represent those moments of no turning back, both good and bad, but one day that really stands out is the day I decided to leave another of my homes.

Women from more than 10 tribes from Maryland to Florida traveled to Lake Junaluska to make history by attending the first Native American Women’s Conference Oct. 16 through 18.  The notable gathering was hosted by the Southeastern Jurisdictional Association for Native American Ministries (SEJANAM) and Lake Junaluska.

Poor man’s supper set for Nov. 14 PDF Print E-mail

Canton First United Methodist Church will host a poor man’s supper from 4 to 6 p.m. Saturday,  Nov. 14.

The dinner includes pinto beans, soupy potatoes, slaw, cornbread and trimmings.  Cost is $6 for adults and $4 for children ages 4 to 7.

Take-outs are available.  Everyone is welcome.
