CANTON — Ruth Ellen Clark Cooper, 78, passed away peacefully Thursday, Feb. 4, 2010, at Silver Bluff Nursing Home, where she had been a resident for 11 years.

CANTON — Glen Swanner, 71, of North Street, passed away Friday, Jan. 29, 2010, at his home, surrounded by his loving family.

Mr. Swanner was born Aug. 5, 1938, in Graysville, Tenn. and had made his home in Canton for the past thirty years.   He was a retired U. S. Navy Veteran, having honorably served his country for twenty years.   After his military career, Mr. Swanner was employed in the automobile industry as a salesman and car dealer.  He attended Center Pigeon Baptist Church.  He was an avid fisherman and camper and could always be found “tinkering” with his cars. Glen was a loving husband, daddy, and papaw and the many memories that each of his family hold in their hearts will be forever cherished.

He was preceded in death by his mother, Susie Swanner and his brothers, Lloyd and Herbert Swanner.

Surviving are his loving wife of 46 years, Linda June Swanner; daughters, Linda Carol Owenby and her husband, Danny Owenby of Canton and Debra Laraine Fincher of Canton; a son, Lloyd Lance Swanner of Canton; grandchildren, Amber, Autumn, Cody, Cierra, Sydney and Madison; sisters, Betty Laird of Candler and Vivian James of Candler; brothers, Wesley Swanner and his wife, Corene Swanner of Graysville, Tenn., and Greg Penland of Candler.

A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 4, at Center Pigeon Baptist Church with the Rev. Allen Blanton officiating. Military honors for Mr. Swanner will be conducted following the memorial service.  The family will be receiving friends at the church one hour prior to the memorial service.

Memorials may be made in Mr. Swanner’s memory to the Center Pigeon Baptist Church, Building Fund, 224 Center Pigeon Road, Canton, NC  28716.

Dorothy Edith Warlick Lanning, 87, of Clyde, went to be with the Lord Sunday, Jan. 31, 2010, at Haywood Regional Medical Center.  She was born in Jackson County on May 3, 1922, to the late Dexter Wilson and Sara Parker Warlick.

Caroline C. Acerenza, 79, formerly of Wood Ammons Road in Mars Hill, died Sunday, Jan. 31, 2010, at the Brian Center.
