Welcome! Today is Thursday, September 9, 2010, the time is 5:13 EDT.
The summer term for the Inspired Art Ministry (IAM) art classes will begin Aug. 9 at the First Baptist Church, Main Street, Waynesville. “I am” classes emphasize individual abilities and offer one-on-one instruction in a positive creative atmosphere. For example, instead of having critiques, which are inherently negative, “protiques” are used, which offer positive study and suggestions for improvement. • Adult Drawing Classes: taught by Char Avrunin — beginning through advanced. Topics covered include implements, surfaces, tools; basic shapes; values; lighting; textures, shadows, highlights, tones; 3-D
as opposed to 2-D; picture plane; composition; focal point;
drapes; foreground and distance; the Golden Mean; 1, 2 and 3-point
perspective; foreshortening; plein air, ala prima drawing and
framing techniques. This class may also be used as an open
studio for advanced and professional artists.
• Painting Classes: taught by Char Avrunin — beginning
through advanced. Beginners who don’t know whether they want
to work in watercolor, acrylic or oil will study brushes, surfaces,
paints and palettes for each media in order to make an
informed decision of which one to pursue. Intermediate
students will work in acrylic and/or oil and learn dimensions of
color, value, hue, saturation, temperature, chroma, brightness,
luminescence, balance, texture, glazing, and scumbling.
Advanced students work in acrylic and/or oil and learn tonality,
chiaroscuro, plein air, ala prima painting and framing
techniques. They may also use this class as an open studio
and have assistance available if desired.
• The Children’s Art Experience: taught by Dr. Autumn Hall —
for children 5 years of age and up. Classes focus on the
development of basic art skills, including use of the five elements
of art; line, shape, color, texture, and space. Students
experience different genres of artwork such as landscape, still
life, and life drawing. They work in watercolor, acrylics,
tempera, pastel, color pencil and crayon. Art experiences are
flexible so that students can develop their interests and have
creative freedom while learning skills with different art media.
“The visual arts are essential to child development,” said
Hall. “Art instruction can help improve writing and fine
motor skills and additionally be used as a vehicle to develop
creativity, problem solving skills and critical thinking skills."
